What Is Number Sense?
According to mathematics educator Marilyn Burns in About Teaching Mathematics, students with strong number sense are able to think and reason flexibly with numbers. They can solve problems efficiently, recognize unreasonable answers, break numbers apart and reorganize them in different ways, identify relationships between mathematical ideas, perform mental calculations, and make sensible estimates.
